Pardon the Interruption
PTI, a show the comes on ESPN prior to Around the Horn begins by showing the latest clips of highlights in sports this past week, from the Devils and Kings in the Stanley Cup Finals, to Lebron James and the Heat closing out Boston, to even the controversial Pacquio fight. After these various small clips are shown the camera zooms in on Michael Wilbon.
Michael Wilbon: Hello boys and girls it’s Michael Wilbon here with Tony Kornheiser and we begin this episode of PTI not discussing LeBron James.
Tony Kornheiser: For a change.
Both men laugh.
Michael Wilbon: We begin with the announcement of Frost returning to professional wrestling under World Pro Wrestling.
Clips of Frost all throughout his career begin to show on the screen.
Michael Wilbon: It has been announced after Goldpush 61 that Frost will enter the 2012 Roy Lee Rumble and attempt to become the WPW Champion in the process. Tone, what are your thoughts Frost joining the WPW and is this a right move for WPW.
Tony Korheiser: Meh, I’m skeptical.
Michael Wilbon: You’re skeptical?
Tony Korheiser: Yeah, on one hand I can see the star power that Frost brings. He receives hype no matter where he goes and he lives up to the hype by delivering on a consistent basis night in and night out. Not to mention that be is a versatile individual who can virtually do it all, however.
Michael Wilbon: Here we go.
Tony Kornheiser: However, I’m still not convinced that he’s 100%, remember he lost his WGWF Intercontinental Championship after someone knocked him unconscious in the parking lot which caused him to miss some serious time. I just don’t think he’s mentally ready to compete inside a ring, much or less a match as grueling as the Rumble itself.
Michael Wilbon: Tone, I’m going to have to disagree with you there, Frost showed that he still had it after making small cameo’s in HWO, he can easily help the WPW in so many different ways it’s ridiculous. But more importantly I’d rather see him make history by winning the Roy Lee Rumble and the World Title all at once and in his very first match in the WPW, do you think he can do it Tone?
Tony Kornheiser: It’s possible with a small Rumble, but there are also guys like Nathan Lucas who are in the Rumble along with Dennis Mann and others.
Michael Wilbon: Wasn’t Dennis Mann briefly in HWO?
Tony Kornheiser: Yeah but as everyone puts it, it hit the fan.
Both Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser laugh.
Michael Wilbon: Look, if Frost can remain healthy, he could easily become the new face of WPW for years to come and there’s not a doubt in my mind that Frost can make history in just a matter of a few short weeks…….
Tony Kornheiser: Well for your sake I hope he delivers.
Michael Wilbon: He’s not even past his prime he’s one 26!!!!
Tony laughs.
Michaael Wilbon: When we return, we’ll discuss what the Thunder need to do to contain the Heat now that they’re heading to the NBA Finals.
The camera pans out as the scene ends.
“What is it about professional sports that make us to continue to strive for that euphoric sensation of competition? Is it the thrill of fans chanting your name? Is it the bragging rights? The accolades? ESPN? Yahoo Sports? To some, that alone may be the answer, for others it’s more than just a game. It’s something you’ve worked hard for, it’s realizing that you are the absolute best at what you do and that you’ve given it your all despite critics and naysayers doubting you on a consistent basis.
My motivation was quite simple, I couldn’t stay away from the sport I love, I couldn’t abandon the ecstasy of hearing my name called after the bell, it’s hard to put in words what I feel when I’m inside a professional wrestling ring, it’s something that can barely be described by words but mainly can be described by actions.
I’m babbling now, giving you all the cliché “comeback” speech that you’ve all heard from one time or another, the broken promises that superstars say before ultimately fading away into oblivion. You’re probably asking yourselves “does this man live up to the hype?” I can see some of you simply pondering on whether a twenty six year old man can be such a phenomenon and be considered a legend? Believe it or not I started out at the bottom and worked my way to the pinnacle, I became the measuring stick and I was the tip of the iceberg, there will never be another after me just as there was never another before me.
There I go running my mouth once more, then again I am a little rusty or perhaps this is just my way of allowing myself to flow and get into a particular rhythm of sorts. Going from my everlasting craving for professional wrestling competition to telling you why I will never be duplicated makes a man such as myself come across as a pompous asshole, well I’ve earned that right and paid my dues so me professing the obvious shouldn’t be something that alarms you all, after all I am a God amongst men.
I didn’t come to the WPW just to make sporadic appearances left and right, I decided to join this establishment because I realized this was a place that was trying to regain former glory, and it reminded me most of my former home, the Hybrid Wrestling Organization. My recruitment pitch here wasn’t the fact that there was a big pay per view coming up to decide the World Champion, it was the fact that it so closely resembled my former kingdom and former HWO stars where here performing. It wasn’t until I signed the dotted line that I was aware the stipulations of such a match to crown a World Champion, a royal rumble style battle royal match, how could I refuse such a lavish offer?
I’ve had my fair shares of battle royal matches, some over the top, some anything goes, you name it and I’ve been a part of it. With only nine entrants and years of experience you’d think this match would be in the palm of my hand but if I was to follow that logic, I’d end up as one of the first men thrown overboard. I don’t doubt my supremacy over these low level ingrates, but one slip up could cost me everything, so there’s no room for error. The Roy Lee Rumble has history to it and I don’t plan on just being just another number or entrant, I plan on creating an unprecedented buzz followed by my hand being raised as the triumphant victor while being awarded the biggest prize this company has to offer.
Some are probably thinking the odds are stacked against me, being that I’m the newest guy here and all and being that without having a match or a dark match under my belt, me winning the title will tarnish it in its entirety or even tarnish the rumble itself, that logic alone is false and would imply that management wants me to bend over backwards before I even come a mile within the Main Event title scene. If anything I will be rejuvenating a company that’s in the rebuilding stages as WPW looks to the future of its prestigious company.
Enough already, it’s time for me to say something about one of my opponents, I would use this opportunity to pick apart each of my adversaries but as the Art of War clearly states “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win” now unless your name is Firebomb I expect you to be able to fathom that quote, that is of course unless your Firebomb.
First up for today is none other than the man who verbally decided to elevate his status as an elite wrestler, a man that I attempted to Google but the only answers I got back where pictures of a wannabe Jersey Shore reject. I’m not sure why this moronic wonder assumes because an old prehistoric fossil decided to have him represent the Roy Lee Rumble that he was going to be rewarded a Roy Lee Rumble Win and the WPW Title. I’m guessing you fail to realize the major difference between reward and award I’ve decided that I’ll help you out just this once.”

“Sorry Marquee, you never did anything that warranted a chance to be guaranteed anything at the Pay Per View, sorry for reigning in on your parade. Just because you’ve been here with your New Era guys doesn’t mean that you are important much less a threat to me in this Rumble. Didn’t Shawn Striker just scare your boys out of the ring this past GoldPush? And you, you may have won a few titles here and there but you’re still a joke in my book.
Honestly Marquee, I wouldn’t even had addressed you first had you not attempted to badmouth Drifter and the HWO. You were right about one thing and one thing only, this isn’t HWO and my accolades don’t hold much to anything here, but that’s where your facts become fiction. You and I both know Drifter is a far better athlete than you’ll ever be and this is coming from a guy that didn’t really see eye to eye with Trekker much in the HWO.
I could easily have one of my protégé’s from my wrestling school to easily pick you and your New Era guys apart, hell if you really feel that I can’t hold a candle to your boys put me in a match against every single member of your little group and let’s see who comes out the victor.
You and I shall continue this verbal back and forth conversation but the endgame still has the same results, a verbal assignation from one of WPW’s own, I guess it’ll all work out since I’m sure WPW covers your insurance and being that you’ll be sidelined with guys like Jackson Freeman but then again, I doubt the WPW will be able to afford to pay you your insurance since we’re in a recession.
