[Joel Thunder sits at a decorated WpW table with a microphone in front of him and he doesn’t look amused one bit. A few dozen reporters are barking questions at him but he’s just staring back blankly without a hint of emotion. Finally he puts his hands up, and adjusts the microphone and the reporters quieten down.]
Thunder: All you are is distorted noise. This is all I hear day in and day out since I joined the WpW. A whole bunch of people talking about something they don’t understand in the slightest. You all may think that you have some sort of knowledge of the world of wrestling but the truth is you’ve never been close… and you never will be.
[The reporters look to each other with defiant expression not following what Joel Thunder is getting at.]
Thunder: Wrestling is and always will be about who wants to be the best wrestler in world. The drug that is competition drives men and women to dream of being the top dog inside the wrestling ring. But to command that number one spot it will always come down to who is going to give up the most in their life to be there. Everything else is irrelevant.
[Thunder casually brushes the short facial hair on his jaw as if he is giving a lecture he has told a thousand times over.]
Thunder: That is what I have been about doing I first entered the wrestling ring nearly twenty-five years ago. What embarrasses me is that wrestling has turned into some sort of sideshow where people like you focus on and reward those who are concerned on anything but spilling their blood and guts to have the honour of calling themselves a World Champion. Instead when I came into the professional game all anyone would talk about was whether or not I could have much of a career debuting at my age. No one discussed whether the WpW roster could keep up with my desire to hunt the competition and have them wish they never had to be in the same ring as me again. No one questioned whether I would hold that WpW World Title belt in the air and give it the justice that it deserves. No, all I heard was talk about age.
[Thunder puts his head down and shakes it in disgust.]
Thunder: The world of professional wrestling has lost its direction and that's why I'm come out of the dark and straight into the spotlight. The hierarchy of the WpW has been built with lies and facetious minds. I have busted my ass every day my entire career to be where I am but all that people like Sebastian is worried about is how they look in sunglasses. The World Champion is more concerned on the company he keeps and which celebrity rapper is making him look good for the cameras on the way to the ring. That’s no improvement to the former champ who had his mind on trying to make some Hollywood dream not seem as ridiculous as it sounded. What confuses me the most is why you small-minded idiots continue to criticize me ever calling out these lunacies in the wrestling world today. I’m doing half your job so all you have to do is take my words and put them in your newspaper articles.
[Thunder sits at the table and doesn’t say a word. He then looks out to the crowd with a waiting stare.]
Thunder: Well what the hell are you doing here? Don’t you have some bullshit questions to ask me about?
[The reporters start barking answers again before one speaks the loudest.]
Reporter 1: Susan A Bishop from the…
Thunder: I don’t care who you are or where the hell you’re from just give me the question. I’ve got actual important things to do today.
Reporter 1: Joel, do you…
Thunder: No you can call me Mr Thunder. Only my friends can call me Joel and with the relationship I’ve got with you media at the moment, we aren’t and never will be friends.
Reporter 1: Mr Thunder, do you…
Thunder: Better.
[The reporter looks frustrated and blurts out the question quickly so to not get interrupted again.]
Reporter 1: Mr Thunder, Sebastian comes from a rich wrestling family and they will look to make a sweep through the WpW at Wrestival. Does this factor play at the back of your mind at all to attempt to stop this whitewash?
Thunder: Actually you know what, just this once will I allow names here. Sally was it?
Reporter 1: Susan A Bishop from ESPN 8.
Thunder: All right then Susan I’m going to play psychic for a moment now.
[Thunder pretends to rub an invisible orb in front of him while closing his eyes and making humming noises.]
Thunder: Yes, I see it. I see you getting fired some time this week for asking such ridiculous questions to the greatest wrestler on the planet right now. Look Sally you had one moment to make your puny existence on this planet just the tiny bit significant and you blew it. But to answer your pointless question no the fact that he comes from some wrestling family doesn’t in the slightest affect me. He’s been bred and groomed to live up to his family expectations. But deep down Sebastian knew that he hasn’t had to lift a finger to make it to the WpW. I’ve had to work from the bottom up to be where I am and had zero help on my journey. There have been no famous close relatives to train me and teach me the secrets of the ring. I’ve had to learn them the only way that I could and that’s fighting. He can keep his pretty boy mantra and worry about what the tabloids are writing about me and which woman I’m dating. My life is the wrestling ring and nothing else. He might have been born into wrestling but I have lived it.
Reporter 2: You’ve been tearing through the competition since arriving in the WpW but Sebastian will be your biggest competition to date. How do you prepare for this advanced competition?
Thunder: I treat every fight the same and that is to be at my peak physical condition and head in guns blazing. Did you really think I would care if I were fighting against some lightweight rookie or King Kong himself. I’ve faced every challenge there is in this game and nothing phases me anymore. That’s more than you can say about Sebastian.
Reporter 3: Sebastian has been in similar form as you in this time period. What makes you think you have the advantage in this match up?
Thunder: The difference is I’ve proved that I have what it takes to be the very best in the ring every week. I’ve fought my way to get this title shot so as far as proving I can be the next Continental or Big Gold Champion then that has been answered. In the meantime what has Sebastian done to prove that he deserves to even be called a champion in the first place? He beat a guy that considers himself a ‘Jester’ in a fight that even Johnny the Pirate could have beaten. I’ve fought at every Goldpush, Silverstars and pay-per-view to be where I am. Sebastian decides he too important to show honour to the gold around his waist. Last week I’d had enough of this double standard and decided to sit tight and take a leaf out of Sebastian’s booklet and stayed at home to prepare for my fight. It’s not me you should be worried about in this match.
Reporter 4: It’s difficult not to bring the subject up but with a limited future at your peak how important is it to take this shot at this age in your career?
Thunder: All right I have better ways to waste my time. Put your hands down and get your pens ready. At Wrestival I will capture both the Continental and Big Gold Titles and begin to truly restore the dignity that the WpW once had. This is only the beginning, this are about to change around here.
[Joel Thunder gets up and brushes off the rest of the questions being thrown his way.]
